Rumor: EA to Make Inferno Video Game

October 31, 2008

I came to a place stripped bare of every Light and roaring on the naked dark like seas wracked by the war of winds. Their hellish flight of storm and counterstorm through time foregone, sweeps the souls of the damned before it’s charge. Whirling and battering it drives them on,

and when the pass the ruined gap of Hell through which we had come, their shrieks begin anew. There they blasheme the power of God eternal.

And this, I learned, was a never ending flight of those who sinned in the flesh, the carnal and lusty who betrayed reason to their appetite.

EA wants to make a game out of that. There’s very little physical conflict in Inferno, but I imagine a game where Dante runs through the pits of hell with limited resources, blasting plasma-bullets at demons and the damned. I hope that this is simply an interactive movie. You control the camera as Dante makes his decent. There could be jump puzzles, sure, but if you stray too far from that idea you get Silent Hill with a Christian boycott-inspiring skin. You’d get a title that’s cheesy and somewhat insulting to it’s source. Let’s all hope EA makes the right decision.

Happy Halloween

The wife and I decided to carve a pumpkin this year. She got distracted while I was still cleaning it out, so I was left to my own devices for design.

My Next 36 Hours (My O.C. is Showing.)

October 30, 2008

Save a Halloween party I am mostly free of obligations for the next 36 hours. Here’s how it breaks down:

36hours

That’s an hour with Mirrors Edge, four hours of Rock Band/Rock Band 2 at the party, about six hours of the new Penny-Arcade Game, nine hours of sleep and shower (over two nights) which leaves 16 hours for Fallout 3. Any time spent writing news posts will probably come out of the sleep/shower pool.

Any one else going bat-shit insane with all the games to be played?

Update: An hour with the Mirror’s Edge Demo was very, very generous.

Bethesda Says SecuROM is Only For Disc Check on Fallout 3 – Reality Says Different

October 30, 2008

Here’s the bulk of the post from Bethesda’s Blog. (Bold added)

For Fallout 3’s copy protection on PC, we use the same security model as we did for Oblivion – a simple disc check. We only use SecuRom’s disc check functionality for copy protection. We do NOT limit the number of installs. We do NOT use online authentication or any other SecuROM functionality except for a disc check when you install the game and when you launch the game.

To which I reiterate:

LittleBigPlanet Still Having Issues

October 30, 2008

I’m not going to review this game for another week or two, but it sure would be nice if they could keep it working for an entire day. I’m waiting for home-grown content to gestate before doing the review; I’d hate to be one of those people trying to share their home-grown content. I offer my empathy to those stricken during these wicked, early days.

More Info on The Beatles

October 30, 2008

  1. This will be a standalone title, not DLC
  2. There will be samples of the entire Beatles Career. Here’s hoping for “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” and “And Your Bird Can Sing.” Honestly, a lot of the great Beatles songs require pianos. Do we get a 5th plastic instrument in our houses?
  3. It won’t be out till 2009, so there’s nothing to say about the game.

I guess iTunes may still be first to market with digital Beatles content.

GameCube Part Deux

October 30, 2008

Here’s the quote I got from Kotaku.

It’s simply not true, Nintendo has never lost its passion for core gamers. Nintendo would like to bring smiles to as many different faces as possible and produce games which appeal to mainstream and gaming audiences worldwide.

We have never neglected core gamers. We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years.

These games aren’t ready to launch — but are being worked on by all development teams.

I got to thinking, if we take all the shovelware out of the Wii’s line up it looks a lot like the GameCube’s library. Six months between titles that are even remotely interesting? Check. Dumbed down ports? check. It’s like the GameCube never left.

Wall Street Journal Reports Beatles License Songs to Rock Band

October 29, 2008

Title says it all. Here’s the link. There’s no word on what songs will be included, except that they’ll be popular. That’s sort of like saying Valve made a first person shooter.

Search for Brandon Criisp Called Off

October 29, 2008

Sgt. Dave Goodbrand says

We’ve exhausted our search in the area. We’re going to look through our tips and make a determination of where else to look… We didn’t find [Brandon] and that means there’s a potential likelihood that he’s hiding out. We don’t want to assume anything at this point because he could be anywhere.
No foul play has been suspected yet. He just basically vanished.

So after two weeks of searching we know Brandon is probably not in his home community. Investigations continue as law enforcement looks into possible leads. Of gaming blogs GamePolitics has the most complete coverage of the search up to this point.
